Five Great Party Foods

Five Great Party Foods

Great party foods are essential to any backyard barbecue, housewarming party, birthday party or sports gathering. The best party foods are ones that have universal appeal, are easy to eat, and taste delicious. Finger foods placed on platters and circulated or placed throughout the room are ideal, as the only other item needed is napkins. Foods that are small and easy to pop in one’s mouth between conversation are perfect for parties and gatherings.

Number one on the list for great party foods is chips and salsa or guacamole. The salsa should not be too spicy, as everyone will be eating it and some may not be able to handle super-hot foods. A medium heat salsa can be placed in a bowl on a platter. The bowl should be surrounded by fresh tortilla chips. The chips can be store-bought; just make sure they are fresh. Nothing will ruin a party faster than stale chips! It is also super easy to make your own tortilla chips: simply stack five corn tortillas on top of each other, making sure the edges are lined up. Then, using a sharp knife, cut the tortilla stack first in half, then in quarters, and then in sixths. This will yield 30 chips. Using a large frying pan, or a deep fryer if you have one, fry the chips for about 3 minutes. Let the chips cool for about five minutes before serving.

Number two on the list is great for health-conscious party goers. A veggie tray with ranch dressing or hummus gives everyone a break from salty and fatty foods. Veggie trays can be found at any grocery store, but it is much more fun to make your own! Place a bowl of hummus, ranch dressing or homemade dip in the middle of a platter. Then, cut up an assortment of vegetables and arrange them around the bowl. Cherry tomatoes, carrots, celery, broccoli and snap peas are all great choices.

Number three on the party food list is ribs. This finger food is popular with everyone and is incredibly tasty! Find a good butcher in Salt Lake City and purchase a few racks of baby back ribs. A great idea is to prepare your own marinade and then barbecue the ribs during the party. The party guests can enjoy the smell as they are cooking while they munch on the other party snacks.

Number four on the party food list is pigs-in-a-blanket. These are super easy to make using miniature hot dogs and puff pastry, or they can be store bought. Pigs-in-a-blanket are the quintessential party food. The breading on the outside of the hot dog allows guests to not get their fingers greasy, and their small size makes them easy to pop in your mouth!

Number five on the list of course has to be something sweet: chocolate covered strawberries! These are easy to make right at home. All that is needed is fresh strawberries and melting chocolate. Using a microwave, melt the chocolate and then dip the strawberries. They can be cooled in the fridge before serving. Chocolate covered strawberries are the perfect sweet complement to any great party.

Being a Foodie in New York City

Chances are that living in today’s fast paced society you are busier than ever and have a go go go mentality. You probably are so busy that you don’t take the time to enjoy the simple pleasures around you. One simple pleasure that sometimes we take for granted is food. If we slowed down, and really took the time to enjoy and think about what we were eating I’m willing to say we’d have a completely different relationship and experience with food. So how can you become a foodie? First, you will want to educate yourself. There are so many resources out there that can help you learn about food and what you should really be feeding your body. As a start, consider watching some basic videos by the Weston A Price Foundation. If you are into documentaries, some good ones include: Fat Head and Food, Inc. If you are more old school, perhaps you’d enjoy reading books on good, whole food. Take your time with this. Taking your time can help you better absorb all the information you’ll find and help you from getting overwhelmed. A second tip to becoming a foodie is to revamp your kitchen. If you want to become a true foodie and really care about what you put into your body, consider cleaning out your old pots and pans. The best kind you can have are stainless steel. They are safe for all cooktops and the surface itself doesn’t interact with the food as you cook it. The thought of switching out your cookware might seem overwhelming and stress you out because of cost. Go slowly. You don’t have to fix everything overnight. Buy one pot here, and another pot there. Go to stores during times they are having sales. Get your pots to use most often first, then add to obtain a more complete set over time. Third and final tip to becoming a foodie is along the same lines. Make small changes over time. One idea to accomplish this is to start by changing one meal a day. Instead of having a poptart for breakfast, consider having eggs and a whole grain piece of bread. By simply changing one meal at a time you can gradually move into better eating without feeling withdrawals all at once. Gradual change is better than sudden change. You will also want to replace processed foods with real foods, get the right kinds of fat, and learn how to correctly read food labels. Another side of being a foodie is the appreciation of unique food. If you are in the area, there are many trendy nyc restaurants for you to experience. 7A Cafe is just one of those such restaurants you won’t want to miss out on. An added bonus is that they are open 24 hours a day! So no matter what time of day it is, you can enjoy their delicious food. They have a wide range of menu options all very reasonably priced for your enjoyment. So if you are wanting to become a foodie, take time to appreciate food and try new things. You’ll never know what you might find that you enjoy!
