Description

Rolled oats and crunchy seeds mixed with honey make a sweet end to lunch. Wrapped in foil, the oat bars stand up to life in a lunchbox, and the oats will give you energy all afternoon. If you are not keen on seeds, use raisins or chopped nuts instead - they're all good.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Ask an adult to help you preheat the oven to 400 Degrees F. While the oven is heating up, rub the baking pan with a little soft butter on a paper towel. This will prevent the bars sticking to the pan.
  2. Measure the oats, flour, sugar, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds into a large bowl. Mix well with a wooden spoon.
  3. Put the butter and honey into a small saucepan, and ask and adult to put it on the lowest heat on top of the stove until just melted.
  4. Pour the melted butter and honey into the bowl with the oats and stir well.
  5. Tip the oat mixture into the pan and spread it evenly with the wooden spoon. Lightly press it downso it all sticks together while it cooks.
  6. Ask an adult to put the pan in the oven and take it out after 10 minutes when it should look light golden brown. Stand the pan on a heatproof surface and, without touching the hot pan, gently cut the mixture into 9 squares (2 cuts each way).
  7. Let cool, then remove from the pan.
  8. Store in an airtight container and eat within 1 week.

Notes

This recipe is written for kids. I could not be bothered to translate it for adult use.

I don't like granola bars and I don't have a sweet tooth, but I did like these bars! Lynn brought these on our recent food shopping trip with her kids and the bars helped save the day.

When she first made them she found that 20 minutes of baking, as called for in the recipe, resulted in burned bars. Her second batch was baked 10 minutes and were perfect. I have adjusted the recipe accordingly.

Crunchy Oat Bars

Crunchy oats maybe but certainly no bars.  The mixture did not stick together after cooking so had to be used as breakfast cereal.  Very disappointing.
